quietriot1983 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Ok, so I've got a spare machine, which has been wiped and Server 2003 has been installed. I've done a system state backup of the current server, and am trying to import it onto the new one (via external USB drive). All that goes fine. However, after the System State Restore on the new box is complete, and the server asks to be restarted, it starts, POSTs and then as soon as the 'Server 2003' splash screen appears, all the USB ports lose power, meaning that you can't log on. Before anyone says, the MB only has USB ports, no PS/2. Has anyone heard of this before? Is it a case of drivers from the other server being imported and corrupting something?
squeeky Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Normally yes, if you wait 5 mins or so whilst drivers install in the background ?? either that or your drivers are now a bit broken ?
quietriot1983 Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Hmm, waiting doesn't appear to do anything. Forgot to mention that booting into Safe Mode/ Last Know Good etc has the same outcome.

ricki Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Hi I am stabbing in the dark here. Are other usb devices plugged in that could be drawing the power. Or is the powerpack not powerful enough for the machine maybe because you have a lot of drives in it. Richard
quietriot1983 Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Plugging in 1-by-1 doesn't do anything, and there is only the mouse and keyboard plugged in at this stage, so they shouldn't be drawing too much power. As for the PSU, it is a 450W supply, powering just one IDE drive, CD-ROM, MB. Really stumped!

2097 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 can you remote in with software , login to the machine and then see what happens. Looks like a driver corruption if it does it at the windows splash screen
