basicchannel Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 So we've decided to get some digital signage for our school and have been looking at Navaho and Sedao; both companies that supply 'all-in-one' solutions with cool little boxes that attach to the back of the screen. We've also been looking at Xibo, and I was wondering, how could someone do a Navaho mediacat style box themselves? Is there any ultrasmall computers out there on the market that would fit on the back of an LCD screen?

They are tiny - I have 5 xibo screens here and getting a couple more - we have ours hidden in the ceiling space above the tv's on a shelf put in the void. Acer revos are tiny similar to Thin Clients they are Dimensions (WxDxH) - 3 cm x 18 cm x 18 cm (source) 1

Are they small enough to strap to the back of a monitor? The Revo's do come with a vesa mount which means it will easily mount to the back of any vesa mountable monitor - they also have HDMI

Screens and mounts will be between £600 and £1k and micro Units another £200. Digital signage companies are wanting around £2k just for the equipment without fitting. Below is some software which for non-profit use is just £99 to run all your screens from a central unit. Cheers As long as what you are buying is a commercial screen then it will have the correct warranty. You could have a word with David Eldridge at Advantage Technologies they are based in Thetford, 01842 763 131 Regarding the previous post about small mountable computers there are lots of options including the acers and mini itx machines and such like. The issue is though that a lot of the time you can't vesa mount the screen to a wall mount and still vesa mount the controller pc to the screen, you have locate it behind the screen normally on the wall. They have tons of experience, might be useful checking them out too!

NPSTech Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I used a system call DoPublicity which worked out very well when the machine we had failed and the original equipment vendor wanted more than $1000 to upgrade the software. The software is less than $200 and now they even offer a limited "free" version which may work in some settings. I used our on our district's educational access channel for a bulletin board display and it works quite well.
Hacksawbob Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I have some samsungs And now running Xibo in preference to the original painful software. It was a rocky start But I have mostly got there. The Windows machine is contained within the monitor. Very neat ,but I have found timed shutdowns startups impossible to get working correctly.
