zag Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Whats everyone using for their server room battery backups? I've been buying APC 1000 watt smart UPS's but they only seem to last about a year without being used. Is there anything better out there?

Batteries replaced in a few already (usually do it every 3 years rather than wait for failure). All working fine. What do you mean by without being used? UPS in storage must be keep at a minimum charge, and storage instructions usually dictate a charge interval. If the voltage drops too low, the battery will be damaged (like any other lead acid battery). Battery Discharge During Storage
john Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I am currently in talks with Borri who are a UPS manufacturer, there kit looks good and comes recommended by people on here and they seem to have a good reputation, and more importantly seem much better value than APC!

Runs 3 and a bit server racks, and the comms cabinet, and has enough gigglyamps to keep the whole thing up for about 2 hours if necessary. Every socket in the room runs through it, and there are 4 commando sockets for the rack PDU's.
Butuz Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 4 x APC SmartUPS 3000i with network management cards here with the servers staggered between the 4 UPS's so one UPS can fail totally with no effect on the servers. Works a treat and fairly cheap. (and it gets tested constantly!!!) Butuz
