Hi All,

Wonder if you can help. Im attempting to place students in bands (beautiful tick grids) yet when i try to use the promotion wizard to do this. The button is greyed out!? have i missed a trick here ?

I have followed the instructions they sent.

We have setup the promotion rules and exported the basic band structure. The students all appear in the curriculum assignment and the blocks also appear. Its just the option to run the wizard is greyed out. I have tried resetting up the promotion rules it hasnt worked. I am working in the academic year of 2011 - 12 so in answer to that questions yes (would have been gutted and felt stupid if it was that :) )

Sorry then Chunks I cannot offer further advice. I do not sort our Options within SIMS and so I have not got to this stage yet.

I would log a new Support Case if I was you!

In the browser for the schemes there should be the word 'promotable' for any schemes you've created rules for. Is that the case? Edited by Janit

if i add the column "promotable" to the browser it puts all my schemes under no promotable. Why would that be ?

What makes a scheme not promotable...

Shouldn't need to add the column, it's there by default. Selecting it is probably just grouping the schemes by the promotable column. It sounds as though the rules haven't been created properly so I'd look back there to be honest. Confirm and Save etc.

Could do with bit more info on what you can see in the Promotion Rules screen. If you select one of your rules, what comes up in the bottom left window?

Think i may have been a numpty.... although not of my own doing. Last year i went through the process following the notes but my predecessor must have taken steps before he left so when i followed the notes that year it just worked.... this year however i now realised he must have gone through additional step (only briefly mentioned in notes, not guided through) to get the promotion working properly. Never had to do this before because he had kindly done it for me. Dont want to tell you what it was cos you will all point and laugh :(

Thanks for your help peeps

Hi Chunks, another obvious one but as well as all the academic stuff have you also set up the pastoral structure? Can't think of anything else to look at....

Ha! Ha! Ha!

Don't worry - we have all been there at some point!

One of my famous sayings here is 'If it don't work then look for the obvious!'

Amazing how many times it works!

For anyone else reading this, KB101698 may be of use, and the resource #12200 . These are the only up to date documents around regarding this, as far as i can tell, as i requested the End of Year documents and was told they wont be available until around May.

Just a word of warning, read the sticky post in this MIS forum regarding use of database diagnostics as the guide will tell you to run that, and you need to know the pitfalls and patch the server to guard against any unwanted automatic fixes.
