[ms office - 2003] Disable Spell check in Word 2003

We are due to hold an exam whereby the spell check, dictionary and thesaurus features of Word 2003 need to be disabeld. Is there a way of doing this, preferably using group policy or failing that on an individual machine basis?

I looked into doing this for Office 2007 - easiest way in the end was to enforce use of Wordpad instead - are there any specific features of Word that are required or would Wordpad do the job (is it an English exam?)?

Yes it is an English exam. We would prefer to use Word but as a last resort I suppose wecould make do with Wordpad.

In an English exam, what functionality of Word do they need to use which Wordpad doesn't offer. It will save you a lot of time trying to stop spell check, dictionary and thesaurus (and ensuring that all routes to those options are disabled) if you don't need to use Word.

 

We did a controlled English assessment at the end of last year, Wordpad worked perfectly for what was needed.

To sum up, create an exams group, create GPO to restrict access to certain folders to that group, roll out GPO to exam PCs, add students to exam group - maybe have a test first!

The real fun comes when you need to allow spell check, but disable thesaurus and Grammar checkers!!

Word count is apparently something the pupils look for in controlled assessment.

thanks for all your suggestions. I've managed to disable those features throught the user of a GPO to set file system security as suggested.
