To those who have already solved it: This can be read slightly differently. The new reading does not change the meaning and only adds one word but it is a somewhat new way of looking at it [unless you have both solutions already?]

 

Can you get there?

I started off by saying:

 

Square Root = Root

Root - 1 = Roo

Then I started thinking it had something to do with Rhubarb Pie lol

 

Went completely down the wrong track at first, but got there in the end.

Can't imagine "who two cubed sigma 3.141592636?!" being much of a chant on the stands, though.

 

My answer has "all the" in it - is that the more in depth answer? cos if it is i'm missing out on the simple answer!

The first interpretation has been solved and posted in this thread. The second has not been posted yet. I must admit it is not a phrase that would readily 'trip off the tongue' and probably isn't in common use.

 

Should I post the second interpretation now?

Anyone care to explain how the square root of -1 = i

 

Square root of -1 is an imaginary number, notated as i in equations. Used for all sorts of fun at A-Level.

 

I must confess I can't see the Asian bit though, my maths really has slipped :/
