LeightonJames Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Hi all I have just been trying to install a piece of software on the Application Server and i was assured that the software would run from the network. Failing that the software would come with an MSI for each disc. Guess what!! Neither of the above 2 statements are true! The software in question is Cambridge Hitachi's Mult-e-Maths Software and it stinks. The only one that comes with an MSI is the teachers side of things. One of the discs uses a java!? installation routine and the third automatically installs to wherever it finds a copy of the software. On top of this the software requires that you install an activex control on the pc it is running on. Again no MSI for this. Once you install the Activex control as part of the main installation routine you are asked to install it again when you run the software. Secondly if you run it from the network after forcing it to install to a mapped network share you are told you need to add the files into the trusted files settings within Flash Player's Global Settings. This is again a per PC setting and when you have 30 PC's in the ICT Suite and at least 3 machines per classroom this is going to get rather tedious! If anyone hass any suggestions as to how this software can be installed so that it can run from the network without the activex prompts and flash player prompts then pleeaaassseee let me know. I have had the school on my case about this software for months and this New FrameWork Edition that Cambridge Hitachi sent me was supposed to fix all the issues.
webman Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 You could try Cameyo - application virtualisation. It's been discussed on EduGeek recently - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/thin-client-virtual-machines/61620-cameyo-like-vmwares-thinapp-but-completely-free.html
djones Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 We have this software installed via MSI and GPO. All MSIs were on the CDs IIRC. Latest (revised framework) version.
LeightonJames Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 cheers Webman - cameyo still didn't work because fo the activex controls! djones - Which versions of the software do you have. the school have got Teachers Toolbox, and the last 2 units for KS2. Cheers
