Delete emails??? SLT Messed up

running server - 2003

exchange - 2007

 

A SLT member has sent an email out to all students - which really should not have gone to them!!! i mean really should not have gone out.... que the head ringing me at 23:15!

 

We have blocked all the schools email accounts but need to delete this email thoughout the whole school! is there a way of doing this without me working all weekend logging into each user account and deleting each account?

on exchange 2007 there should be a search and delete function. If you have the title of the email and the senders address you should be able to search for the email in all accounts at once, then bulk delete (Just asked the academy down the road as they run 2007, we run 2003 here)

Use exmerge, its pretty easy to batch delete an email with a certain topic.

 

Use with care though

EDIT: Oh your using 2007, not sure if it works for that.

exmerge dapi.dll is not found!!!! nightmare this!

IIRC the Recall function doesn't actually remove the message unless the user opens the recall message before opening the original that was sent. ie the user receives 2 messages, the original and the recall request. Edited January 21, 2011 by bodminman

Do you know you need to run exmerge on the Exchange server? I've not done this with Exchange 2007 (last time I had an issue like this we were on 2003) but a quick google says it's supported.

 

Just done a bit more googling and found this - How to Export Mailbox Data: Exchange 2007 Help

 

the preferred method is:

To perform this task in Exchange 2007, use the Export-Mailbox cmdlet with the DeleteContent parameter and any of the content filtering parameters, such as AllContentKeywords, AttachmentFilenames, ContentKeywords, SubjectKeywords, StartDate, or EndDate. For more information, see Export-Mailbox.

You need to use the Export-Mailbox cmdlet with the -DeleteContent switch

Take a backup first and do a test delete on a message that can't possibly exist (i.e send yourself and a colleague a mail with "inflatable haggis" in the subject line and do your first run based on said haggis email.)
