free disk space monitor

i'm after a program that can monitor disk space usage but not in the terms of treesize, etc. i mean it can look at disk at 8am, record where space is, and then look at say 5pm and record whats changed, so you can see what space is being used where.

 

are there any free tools, its just needed for a week so id rather not buy a product if i can help it.

This is what i'm using.

Or just do a quick backup each night with Differential/incremental and look at the log files in something like BackupExec.

 

I did this for a while and it was anything for 500-3gb a day.

but will that show me what folders are taking space up over a period of time?

say for example i want to scan c: at 9am....it will log disk usage in all folders, then at 5pm i run the same scan and it will analyse the differences, and be able to say for instance c:\temp=50mb + / c:\inetpub=40mb - etc and lists what space has been used or lost between the two snapshot scans

Yeee, but my solution you get to make a server, install spiceworks, scan the school network get all information about every bit of IT you have. Then you can install the module to know how much disk space you are using, seeeeeee Simples!

I've not come across any solution like that - you could create a script to do it though I guess.

i used one once, was a paid for product that i had the eval version for 30 days. it would scan folders and actively monitor which folders had data going in and out. can't remember for the life of me which product it was though (hence this thread )
