Internal AIT drives

Hi there,

 

do any of you use a company that for an annual fee will swap out your faulty AIT drives? If so could you share the contact details please.

 

We've got a few internal drives that I'm worried will not have the legs to go much further so want to get them covered.

We have a support contract with RM on our servers and that covers the replacement of AIT drives... Not that this information helps.

Is this not something you're willing to do yourself? I'm seeing MANY of these drives (from AIT1 up to AIT4) scrapped with server migrations or being replaced with RDX or similar - I'm sure with some eagle eyes plenty will pop up.

AIT is a dead format, so I would be very suprised if you could find a company to willing to do what you describe (unless the drive is also covered under your server support contract).

 

Everyone else seems to have settled on LTO for backing up large amounts of data.

I appreciate that AIT is a 'dead format' but unfortunately were skink and there is no dosh on the horizon for me to purchase anything else.

 

Any suggestions on how I can/should bring it all into line at minimum cost?

 

Currently we have:

 

Virtual

 

x4 XenApp Servers. I take snapshots of the servers prior to doing updates/app installs. Is this good enough?

x1 File Server. Robocopy to NAS.

x1 CSG server. Nothing

x1 SQL server for Citrix. Nothing

x1 Exchange server. Built in Windows Backup.

x1 Print server. Snapshots taken prior to updates/printer installs.

 

Physical

x2 RM CC3 servers - Both backup to AIT

x2 Admin servers (Inc SIMS) - Backup to AIT

I've sourced AIT drives on the past but I have so little dosh, I'm waiting for something to be on deaths door before making a purchase. At least with a manitenence contract the things are normally just swapped out on a 'like for like' basis within 24 hours.
