How accurately are petrol pumps calibrated,
Should be very, and they are checked by local Trading Standards. If you think you are getting diddled, phone them!

When i worked part time at Esso it got changed in the afternoon because Mark came on shift and he was responsable for doing the price change. So it could just be for the same reason where you are seeing it.

Always remember the day he accidently put 0.089p instead of 0.89p for the super unleaded on the till, i got a bargin that day on my full tank, and so did a few other motorists.

to be honest, 89p would be a bloody bargain right now!!!

So, someone could be coming on shift and putting the prices up by 1p and then at the end of their shift putting it down by 1p? Hmm, wonder where that 1p a litre extra goes...

My home town is somewhere around 135.9. Rural life sucks sometimes. And I just know that for all this talk of the rural fuel subsidy or whatever, it will only be a few villages in the Scottish highlands that qualify, and Lincolnshire will somehow be portrayed as this vibrant centre of industry where we're absolutely not just fields of cabbages.

by the same token why should other subsidise rural fuel if you choose to live in the sticks then why should i pay towards your lifestyle choice

The government are taking about introducing fuel subsidies / changing the duty to reduce the impact of the price of fuel on motorists, why not just give everyone a transport subsidy of say £500 then you can spend that on whatever mode of transport you want. Car, Bus, Train, Bike?

Depending on the age of the vehicle, just shove some veg or rapeseed oil in. Although, suspiciously the price of said oils in most places has almost reached the same price as derv.

That is true, though whilst it's still a little bit cheaper, it kind of makes sense .. you'd think the government would want to promote the greener alternative by not taxing it so much .. but hey .. that would mean a government that makes sense .. lol ..

Trouble is, it's not really "greener". If you burn oil of any kind you release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere - doesn't really matter whether it's veg or mineral oil - and that's not very green.

By using veg oils you don't have to dig up the Arctic or spill oil into the Gulf of Mexico which I'd guess makes it greener but you do end up using food crops as fuel - this means that people who used to be able to get food now can't get it so easily (or find it's more expensive - the people growing it can sell it for more as fuel than as food)

LPG - I seem to remember something about way it was brought in meant that the government couldn't tax it a highly for a certain number of years, I seem to remember the end of those years being 2012, but I might of dreamt it if I'd eaten too much cheese before bed one night .. lol ..

Has anyone actually had a diesel/LPG conversion? Looks as though I could pay for it in two years at current rates, with a 30% increase in power if you believe the blurb. That's 150BHP up to 200, and better than my current 40MPG...

However, the first two hits Googling "lpg conversion diesel" are completely contradictory!

i diddnt think you could lpg a derv as i thought lpg like petrol is sparked off derv is squashed to produce the bang without any spark

The sites say that the diesel ignition ignites the LPG. The LPG ensures that all the diesel burns. Hence increased power, and so long as you don't change your driving style, an increased MPG of 30+%, but you do need to spend some of that on LPG.

I don't believe that you can do a direct diesel to lpg conversion - you either need some sort of spark, or you can mix lpg into the diesel and hope for a higher power output (a bit like when we were teenagers and sprayed lighter fuel into the air intakes on our FS1Es to get that "turbo" feeling).

For diesel - you're better off looking for (or even producing yourself) a source of used cooking fat that has been cleansed - a lot of diesels run well on that and its very very cheap if you do it yourself
