featured_spectre Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 El Toro restaurant in Hammersmith...A little review for you Hot wings were ordered - missing the hot flavouring, they were too plain for mine and Viks liking. Steak was ordered with a peppercorn sauce...well the sauce didn't arrive until I finished my steak, and it was a mushroom sauce..I thought, I'm not wasting that, so I downed it, burnt my tongue (which still hurts now) and ended up looking special as I licked a bottle as it was the only thing that was cold. Vikpaws steak looked like it has been chainsawed straight from a live cow and was massively undercooked for how he ordered it, he asked for it to be sent back, only to get it back as if it has been thrown on the cooking slate for a further 1 second each side. I think everyone was disappointed as it promised so much, yet gave so little. The company and the jokes were nothing short of fantastic, but just the food was the let down. I hope the rest of the crew add they're opinions.
Gatt Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 VikPaw you didn't order the Blue Steak by mistake did you - lol? I prefer my steak's Medium Rare with Peppercorn Sauce Wont be going there for one though..
plexer Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Vik's mistake was that he swapped with me the steak they bought him first. It was a nice steak and nice and rare how I like it. The steak he then had to send back to be recooked was a bit mush but as ours had steaken so long to come out and everyone else had nearly finished he would still be there now waiting for the correctly cooked steak. The desperados were good though. Ben
mac_shinobi Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I normally go to The Old Red Lion in Wellham nr market harborough The Old Red Lion Pub in Welham More of there Pubs around the country Choose your King Henry's Tavern
Domino Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 The sirloin I had was nicely cooked - but exceedingly dry. Just bad meat. Was funny the comments coming from Vik though 1
Domino Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I had the 'handmade burger'. If 'hand made burger' actually came from a 'Burgertron 2000' then it would be accurate. Robots have hands too...
Gatt Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I had the 'handmade burger'. If 'hand made burger' actually came from a 'Burgertron 2000' then it would be accurate. Dry bun, dehydrated burger and fries that, whilst cooked, were neither tasty or seemingly fully cooked. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and it was cheap. But it was cheap as in nasty. So you went to McDonalds then DB?
srochford Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Went here for steak last Monday and had brilliant steak - I'd guess it's a bit far from Hammersmith and you can't get there with an Oyster card but if you're in the area, it's worth checking out :-)

However I gather the SmoothWallers had a bit of an awful time this year - so might be best avoided if its going downhill.....
Soulfish Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 El Toro was a bit of a let down unfortunately - even with my mammoth platter of meat . If anyone's looking for an excellent steak restaurant in central London I can definitely recommend Goodman Steak Restaurant Mayfair City London A bit on the expensive side, but some of the best steak I've ever had the pleasure of eating, cooked to perfection
Little-Miss Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I felt so sick after my food. Was convinced i was gonna hurl!
tom_newton Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Previous years we've gone to Black and Blue, which is usually excellent. However I gather the SmoothWallers had a bit of an awful time this year - so might be best avoided if its going downhill..... Some thought it was OK.. I didn't - service was even worse than usual (and you usually put up with their s--t for great steak) and I ordered a rare rib-eye, which was one of the worst bits of meat i've eaten in a LONG time. We all thought the fries they served with them had changed - RobF suggested to the waitress that this may be because the old ones were hand cut chips, and these are out of a freezer bag - went down badly!
plexer Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 The other thing about el toro is that the nice desperados beer we had is french and not mexican as you may think with the style of food. Ben
featured_spectre Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Just a bump as a reminder not to go there again for the next BETT show!

Soulfish Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I still remember my massive meat platter being wholly disappointing and under cooked!

Dos_Box Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 TBH, I really missed out usual Thai place on Cromwell Road in jan. Still, Yas was very nice.
GrumbleDook Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I will eventually drag you all to my favourite all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet just off Tottenham Court Rd ... preferably before we see We Will Rock You (as long there is not too much heckling from @Domino about the quality of the band).

I'd like to see @Domino do a better job. I second that proposal Mr GD What night is one proposing and can we actually sort something out this year instead of just talking and saying how nice?
Domino Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) (as long there is not too much heckling from @Domino about the quality of the band). I promise* *not an actual promise Edited November 18, 2011 by Domino
