We have just bought some box standard MS cams but dont want to use messenger, yahoo, or any other chat program. Basically all i am looking for is a lightweight program that will allow the video and audio through to both machines on the domain to demonstraight video conferencing. Can anyone recommend any free programs? Thanks
soveryapt Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Ue Skype and install Bonjour. It will then look for users on the same network and talk directly to each other. As skype is fast becoming a standard thing for Video Conferencing, it can't be a bad thing ..

crt404 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Our DT department uses skype to facilitate video conferencing between classrooms and other schools; just make certain your firewall/proxy alllows secure connections, else it won't be able to connect to the skype servers.

Focus Media - Products - Focus VideoPhone There doesnt seem to be much info on the website. Does this program work only over the LAN ie the kids cant connect to anyone externally? Have you tried it with Win7? We currently use Netmeeting to teach the kids about VTC but with the move to Win7 we need an alternative.
danIT Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Download the Big Blue Button VM and or install on an Ubuntu box in a few minutes. You then have a flash based video conferencing tool, uses flash so you'll need that installed.

We did a test between a Win 7 machine and an XP machine... no problems. As for using externally, i dont think so, though we never tested it that far.. All we did was type the computer name into the connect to box and it showed up..

Alis_Klar Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 FocusVideoPhone is so simple. Like all the best software has no installer is just a single executable! Each installation has it's own address book. Not sure if this address book could be copied to another machine or not. Only wish it had a full screen mode but otherwise it's a really neat solution.
