frosty Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I am running Ubuntu 10.10 as my webserver (thanks mainly to the EG community) and now I have been asked if I can provide web space to a handful of Sixth Form Students to host sites they have been building. I am looking for advice on how best to do this and then how to achieve it please. Thanks Frosty

If you are running Ubuntu - then put the free webmin and virtualmin bits on and you get a nice web based control panel that allows you a dead easy way to create hosting/webservers/ftp access for your users.. it's cpanel that isn't free.. danbuntu Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I've used ehcp for this: http://ehcp.net/ It basuclly set the server up a normal hosting type server. Students can then aget access via ftp, phpmyadmin and the all the normal tools
carvjo Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 create virtual hosts you can have losts of sites on one server with one IP address VirtualHost Examples - Apache HTTP Server but if you use one of the web based control panels - that does all the clever stuff for you..
