dancingdruid Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 btw if you are out of the minimum contract period on Virgin media broadband (cable) phone up and speak to retentions with details of a cheaper rival (eg sky). I've had half price broadband for nearly a year now and I've just renewed the half price deal for a further 6 months. As Tesco say - every little helps :-)
Hybrid Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Any Enta reseller is worth looking at. I'd also like to say PlusNet. CS is spot on and they are quite proactive (for instance they noticed my line had a lot of sync drops for a period and they actually rang me to check things over. They have also just activated another segment of a 622mbit pipe. :-)
kearton Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I use Zen and would recommend to others. No traffic shaping either. Like has been said before, not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.
sidewinder Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 If you are in a Virgin area I see no reason to waste time with 'upto' xxMB ADSL when you can pay a bit more and get guaranteed speeds with Virgin Needless to say - I'm on Virgin
nicholab Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Be unlimited I am syncing at 11/1.3 meg You get a VOIP router in that price with good wireless.
gwendes Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 But you need to live in London Portsmouth is getting 20MB Virgin this month and my house purchase down there is almost complete - can't wait to nearly triple my connection speed
Geoff Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 But you need to live in London No Be are rolling out outside London now (admittedly slowly).
tom_newton Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 We have Be here in subnny leeds. Actually I lie - it's chucking it down, but we do have Be. Syncs at something in the region of 7/1.5 which is bloody good considering our distance from the exchange. For those that know the area we're close to Elland Rd., and the exchange is over the hill in Armley, a good 3 miles I reckon. Check out samknows.com - it seems Be have a rather large number of exchanges now: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/llu-league.php?status=2&type=be&sortfield=ex.name&sortorder=ASC
plock Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I'm currently using Virgin, I'm on their 20MB package, and must say, I only ever see a maximum speed of 10MB!
gwendes Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 @plock - What upload speed do you achieve? How have you tested that the 20MB service is switched on and available?
plock Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 @plock - What upload speed do you achieve? How have you tested that the 20MB service is switched on and available? I'm using: http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/ It's normally quite accurate...
gwendes Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 uploads? I'll be moving to a 20Mb area this month hopefully
plock Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Sorry, yeah have seen an increase speed with uploads.
gwendes Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 LOL - this is an old thread to revive, I know! I've actually moved though! Since June I've had another house fall through and now, finally, I've moved back out of my parents into a new house with new broadband - connected the first day and averaging 12-15Mbps... Uploads are at a steady 760kbps
