Mock emails?

Throwing something out there to see what ideas people have/used.

 

We have an exam course starting soon, the course has quite strict rules, the issue at hand is as follows :

 

(i) The student cannot be allowed internet access. This must be evidenced.

 

(ii) The student must during the course, show that they are capable of sending an email and have an understanding of how to structure an email and usage. Use of CC, attachments etc.

 

(iii) The student must not use any form of webmail , as per internet restriction, for the email component.

 

So effectively, what we will need is something which looks like an email client, with all the usual features. But isnt webbased and doesnt involve us having to fart about setting up individual mailboxes etc.

What stupid course requirements. Throw it back at them and ask how are students supposed to show that they are capable of sending email without access to a proper, working email system?

Tell me about it ! Daft indeed, but thats the course , or rather than a part of the course, the rest of the course is reasonable.

clients like thunderbird, livemail client will fulfil the requirement.

 

Also, do you not use something like outlook/exchange? You can block the internet happily and still use email.

We found (when we had to do something similar) that pointing out that an intranet webmail interface with an account that can only send internally to [email protected] is not "access to the Internet" was sufficient. Phone them - the rules are generally written for the lowest common denominator and provided you can assure them that it can't be used for cheating it should be fine.
