siadam Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 As the title says, ordering a new server. All desktops will be Win7, and laptops are WinXp clients. Is R2, the server OS to get, as opposed to just 2008? Thanks in advance for any advice.
john Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Yes you want R2 to manage Windows 7 clients successfully: ) and if you have a problem with R2 and compatibility with software, EG your MIS, you can downgrade to 2008 just like Windows 7 Pro Licences to XP Pro

featured_spectre Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Yes, go for R2...it runs well for W7 right back to W2000 so its well worth the money!

Typically it's just a DNS/DHCP/File server. No real software really runs on it. This is not for a school.
featured_spectre Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 In that case R2 will do the work well!

For what you have said 2008 R2 will be fine
