I've been waiting for something like this for ages. I hate IE with a passion but it was the only browser I could fully customise. I think a download and test is in order :)

Have to say I'm glad Google are finally stepping up their game with MSI deployment. Their near-total lack of internal use of Windows has left them ignorant of how administrators manage a Windows network for too long. An official MSI, with the welcome surprise addition of Group Policy support, means they have leapfrogged Firefox who rely on a 3rd party distribution.

+1 on this. I've been waiting for an alternative to IE that provides an MSI and GPO support. Now Google have stepped us it's time for me to test it out and see if we're able to lock the Chrome install down enough that we can allow access to all Staff and Students :)

Has anyone had any issues with the enterprise standalone installer?

When I deploy it the normal way via AD, it just hangs for about 20/30 minutes at "installing managed software google chrome" etc. before timing out and not installing. On further inspection it seems as though the installer is checking for updates. In our environment, unless you are logged in you can't get out to the internet. Is there anyway this behaviour can be changed so the installer doesn't check for updates?

Seems a pretty bad flaw.. suprised no one else has mentioned this? :/

It does take a while to do its thing here but it does complete.

XP stations have proxy configurations to have internet access: Windows 7 stations have no Internet access [both while no users are logged on]

HTH.
