Need advice on joining virtual pc to domain

i need to carry out testing on a client pc but none are available. Somebody recommended that i use virtual pc to do the testing.

 

I have installed ms virtual pc and created a virtual install of windows xp pro.

I was just wondering as the pc i am running it on is a network client, can i join the virtual pc to the domain?

 

 

Also would you recommend ms or vm version?

I hear vm do ready made virtual images linux etc, any body using virual pc's to conduct testing, is that the case (time saving)

I use vmware for testing and deployment here and joining a virtual pc to the domain is the same as for a physical one.

just like normal. i have the networking set to the same nic the host pc uses. dont think u have to do anything else. i always got confused with vmware, too many networking options i didnt understand.

just a little confused does the virtual pc use the same mac address as the pc running virtual pc, (as dhcp has the mac address mapped to the ip address.) (surely this would cause a conflict)

 

Do you use vmware servers along with the vmware client?

sorry just looked in dhcp and notice that the virtual pc is using a different mac address!

It will randomise one a new mac address for each VM.
