adding teachers group to local admin.

We have recently started to add desktop pcs to all whiteboards, stops teachers adding and removing laptops. We have Hitachi whiteboards using starboard software. In order for teachers to connect to the whiteboards the teachers group (domain users) need to be a member of local admin. We have added teachers group to local admin and the software works fine, until you restart the pc and the teachers group is removed from local admin.

Any ideas on how to stop the teachers group from being removed?

This is my first so hope I have provided enough info.

thanks

I would look at the problem another way and try to find out why the IWB only works with local admin rights. Having dozens of people as the admin of one machine is asking for trouble.

Another thing, are you saying that there is a group of domain users called teachers or are you making Domain Users local admin.

I hope it's not the second as that means students could potentially have admin rights on classroom PCs.

Contact support of StarBoard and ask them if you can run the software as a restricted user.

Alternatively follow the suggestions of people who have run into this problem with USB drives.

How did you add them? :)

You should be able to give permissions over specific folders usually - we have an Hitachi board which works with standard users??

Are all your teachers a member of a specific security group?

If so try this as a start up script for the machines in question, more of a quick fix than a proper solution though

NET localgroup Administrators /add "DOMAINNAME\Teachers"

You can add users to locak admin group by Group Policy

The settings is in

Computer configuration\windows settings\Restyricted Groups

and then add administartors group, then you can add groups into that poilcy setting

The teachers group was add to local admin by

Mycomputer->manage->groups-> administrator

Add teachers group.

Students do not have admin rights on the machine.

The pcs mother boards vary, they are old pc that have been passed down through the school and it’s generally the same motherboard that were having problems with, but also had this problem with a new Toshiba laptop.

Will have a look at setting folder permissions for starboard software.

Thanks for the swift reply.
