This week I'm not on normal timetable (due to red suit work :) ) but I've had a couple of classics with non-reporting of faults.

Popped into one school on Monday (I'd transferred a DV tape over the weekend to DVD for them) and a teacher saw me and said could I show her how to clean the filter on the projector as there's a message coming up and she hasn't been able to use the projector since Thursday!

She'd actually gone to all the trouble of wrapping a message around the remote to tell other staff not to use the projector but still hadn't managed the logical step of adding to the helpdesk (or even telling the ICT Co-ord!)

Anyway, went onto next school (for red suit work) and teacher asked me if I was coming in Friday as usual. I said no - I'm doing today instead of Friday. Oh I didn't know that she said. Whats the problem - the smartboard hasn't worked since last wednesday was the reply. (I was in the school last Friday!)

People - help yourselves please!!!!!

This is one of my main gripes - especially when an annoyed "It hasn't been working for ages" is followed by the customary "Well I thought you knew".

Getting people to tell you over an approved method such as a helpdesk? (as opposed to just tellling you while you're passing / at dinner / just going / busy concentrating / taking over the world) - Now thats an entirely different can of worms.

Its not like this is only an issue in schools either - constantly get exactly the same behaviour here.

Makes you wonder what goes on in peoples heads.....

if you're trying to take over the world starting in derby you've got a long trek ahead of you my friend. :p

I dunno, fairly central, good transport links, could be worse.

I am going Captain Hardass after Christmas and have decreed ALL jobs will go into the helpdesk. Tried the nicey nicey way and we have about 150 tickets in 6 months, most one person reporting the same issue that is all ready been fixed (but that's a different story.). Then if someone complains it is totally in their court. Bored of pandering now.

I think the only thing that would work would be a rotting head on a spike in the middle of the staff room. :)

I think that the staff really believe that we check EVERY piece of equipment, EVERY day or have some sort of remote monitoring kit that so we can see everything. I suppose if you don't really understand tech, this is quite likely. That's why you get the response..."I thought you knew"...

That's the next term. I have a long list for that.

I'm thinking of taking a leaf out of Lord Vetinari's book.

A scorpion pit over which I can suspend them (upside down of course), complete with the sign (also upside down - I'm not a complete monster) "Use the Helpdesk"...

Plus, it'll come in really handy if any mime artists happen by :)
