Hi all.

Getting a big problem with the Autumn 2010 release for SIMS. SOLUS downloads the update to about 40% across the progress bar, then stops dead. After about 2mins it throw up this error:

"

The file SIMSCentralServerSetup 1.580.11.0 to 1.582.19.0 Upgrade.EXE was not downloaded correctly.

The web server gave the following error

The operation has timed out.

"

I've tried three times. I never tick the box in SOLUS that says apply updates after downloading, but when I click on "Close" on the error box it says the download is complete. If I had ticked that box, I think my update would be in a half finished state. Badness.

I have looked at the Setups folder, and compared it to the file list for the update. there are a lot of missing files, including the SIMSCentralServerSetup.exe

With a reboot, it got a bit further:

"

The file SIMSCentralServerSetup 1.586.23.0 to 1.588.23.0 Upgrade.EXE was not downloaded correctly.

The web server gave the following error

The operation has timed out.

"

I don't think the web server Capita are running is up to it.

shucks, i've had similar before. good idea not to apply straight away! :)

have you logged a case, you can do it via the helpdesk on supportnet so they'll see it first thing and you don't have to worry about it.

normally they can give you an alternate download link, maybe there is a link to the iso on supportnet already. usually someone has asked for it, soon after the release of a new version.

good luck.

EDIT: or remote access in and try overnight when less hammering of their server might be going on...

Sometimes this can be caused by not having the previous installation files present within the Setups directory.

I'd say to download it from the Capita FTP site but it is awfully slow...

We have not had too many problems with the SOLUS Download Servers. Released he upgrade to 275 schools on Friday (SIMS and FMS) and by this morning 77% were complete. This is using an automated process downloading over night though.

Setup a mirrorsite, only time they'll ever have to hit Capita servers is for the checking of what releases they have authorised.

Solves sooo many problems.

Is the internet connection ok? I'd run a speedtest to check it. We used to get errors like this until the schools had their switches upgraded. Apparently, their old gear was really quite poor and was running out of memory. Sad but true!
