These Lib Dem MPs have a backbone - the others who did not vote should be kicked out of office as people have voted for these people to represent them but don't even have the balls to stick a cross on a piece of paper. Shame on them - they are a disgrace to democracy.

Politics is all about the art of the possible - just because someone votes for or against something doesn't normally mean they have any higher moral conviction than the others. - they do their own maths and decide what's best for them.

 

The lib dems that voted for the proposal could be said to have more backbone.

 

And in any case, until we see a little spreadsheet with university costs and funding via taxes vs funding via loans vs total cost to each family unit, whoes to say who got it right.

I'm not sure they have - Tim Farron (our local MP) was on TV last night saying how he voted against but since it's gone through "we" now have to get behind the proposal.

 

I think it's really easy to know something is almost certainly going through and stand against it in order to look good.

 

A hollow no vote IMHO.

 

Interstingly Tim is on Radio 4's Any Questions which we are hosting tonight so it we'll see what he has to say. What I'd really like him (and the other no votes) to do is continue to say it's wrong and be publically critical of it.

Of even more backbone is my MP Jason McCartney who voted against, despite being a Tory, having consulted with constituents.

 

Probably won't have won him many friends in the Tory Whip's office but he's gained a lot of respect locally.

The first person on the list is my MP and I am glad she did vote against it. She listened to her constituents. She is a brilliant MP: she is always visible in the local community at every local event- she seems to be able to clone herself as she also attends parliament a lot too.

She also has another way of finding out some local opinion, as her husband is head of the Lib Dems on the (Tory controlled) local unitary authority, and there are a couple of leading Lib Dems on the council of the next authority along as it were- her constituency goes across the authority line.
