SimpleSi Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) I saw someone with a Galaxy S typing using a Swype keyboard and I thought wow! it doesn't seem to be available for general use but I've found another one in the market called SlideIt that does the same thing. Takes a bit of learning but ends up being much much faster to type "proper" messages (e.g more than OK and c u l8tr ) its one of those things you have to try for a week before deciding yea or nay regards Simon Edited April 21, 2011 by ZeroHour
Domino Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 The Swype app should run seamlessly on all Android versions. Note that it isn’t available for download from Android Market – you need to actually visit the Swype website and make sure your phone’s settings allow you to install and run apps from ‘unknown sources’. BOOOOOM
creese Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I've been using SlideIt for a while. I wish the dictionary was easy to edit though. Telling someone you want to 'radish' them doesn't have the same ring to it.
jamesb Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I put it on my N8 as soon as I could - took about a dozen text messages to get used to and then I was completely hooked and haven't looked back since.
plexer Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Swype is cool Even better when you learn that if you swipe from the swype button in the bottom left corner over to the sym button you then get some navigation arrows etc... Ben
SimpleSi Posted November 30, 2010 Author Posted November 30, 2010 Hi Mike Note that it isn’t available for download from Android Market – you need to actually visit the Swype website I don't see anything to download Si
gwendes Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Hi Mike I don't see anything to download Si Think you need to be registered for the beta...
CyberNerd Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 im sure i mentioned this already... you can get it on the alternate marketplace: Applanet 1
creese Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Think you need to be registered for the beta... I've been registered for months, no contact from them.
aerospacemango Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I've had it a couple of days, now, after getting my invite. *WARNING* It is a 10meg apk, 10meg installer, and 10meg of other files and such. So you need a HUGE chunk of internal memory to get it running. However, once you get it in...it really is a "game-changer"! It is incredibly easy to use, and even though it's only beta, it is very polished. Once they manage to bring the install down to a reasonable size, then I think it would be a definite purchase....and I've always said I'd spend nothing on apps!!! They have said, on their forums, that they will be looking to drop the size of the download. Once that happens, I'd advise everyone to get it...It IS that good!

Installed and much better than SlideIt. Mine is showing as a 1.73mb install.

This is pretty high on our priority list for fixing. Sorry for the inconvenience for now, but we'll get it worked out soon. Too many damn languages That's fresh off the forum wall!!! The apk shows as around 1.7 for me too...but as you can see, it's all the gubbins around it that makes it so huge!
RyanBTBizDirect Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 The Swype Beta is open again for anyone that wants to give it a try. I use it on my HTC Desire and think it's pretty solid. 1
SimpleSi Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 Great news except when I click on the link, it goes off to a swype webpage that says sorry - you dont have an android phone Si

SimpleSi Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 And had to do a lot of app deleting to enable enough space to install it but its in and working (which is good news because my slideit beta expired 2 days ago! ) Si
aerospacemango Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 I seem to have lost the actual swype function.... Don't know what I've done, but it no longer accepts the word!!! Will investigate!!
creese Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I thought SlideIT was good until I tried Swype
aerospacemango Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I seem to have lost the actual swype function.... Don't know what I've done, but it no longer accepts the word!!! Will investigate!! Seems that there is a bug (it IS beta after all!!) where the facility to swype drops out.... You try to input and the track is there, but then a blue outline goes around the text box, and nothing appears. Should this happen to you.... Swap back to your normal input method, and type a text.....once this has gone, go back to options and make Swype your keyboard, and it will work again!
