Network Projector

Hello all,

 

We are currently researching projectors that can be managed and presented to over the network. Does anybody have any brands or models in mind? We would like to be able to manage them from computers in our department (turn off, turn on, alerts, etc.) but then also would like our staff to be able to present to them through the network.

Most projectors come with the ability to be managed over the network:

I wouldn't rely on that same infrastructure to project content though.

 

We use the Mitsubishi FL7000U and it is managed over the network but we still have video cables ran to the desks or desktops.

Yeah Ive seen that. I actually have a model picked out for network managed. I would like to try to find something that can project through the network also though and still be pretty reliable - If I cant find the 2nd part thats fine, but i figured I would try.

How do you mean, eaxctly? You can get "baluns" devices to transmit VGA signals over network cabling, if you have one computer a fair distance away from the projector that you want to use it with. A proper, decent baluns can cost around £150 - beware of cheaper ones, they tend not to support a decent screen resolution. For that price, though, you might as well just buy a dedicated PC for the projector and have people use VNC or whatever to control it over the network. A small, monitor-mountable Acer Revo or similar would be just right - you could screw those to the ceiling right next to the projector using their mounting bracket.

The Epson ultra short throw has a limited capacity to send images through the network. I believe it can run up to 4 units at once.

 

We are in the process of installing over 80 units into 2 schools in the North East who want to do exactly this. Although epson have not given any guarantees we will be seeing how many we can push content through at once.

 

What exactly are you trying to achieve with this by the way?

We've been using the Epson projectors EMP-83 for three years with network management and they are great. A central console that turns the projectors off, because for some reason the teachers find it too diffucult and email us if there are problems.
