Desktop & Start Menu based on the computer

Hi Everyone,

 

At our primary school we have year group logins e.g. yr5, yr6 etc. Years 5 & 6 have been given Net Books. The Net Books are really for research in classroom; saving work to mapped drives on the file server / domain controller (they have been added to the domain). When Yr5's and 6 want to use RM Maths they go to the ICT Suite where RM Maths is installed on 30+ pc's (all pc's on the domain and RM is networked). The Year group logins have redirected Desktops and Start Menu’s. With this setup it is a little untidy when they log into the Net Books they have shortcuts (RM Maths and MS Office 2003) that don't work and aren't needed.

 

I think one solution would be to have different Desktops & SMs based on the computer they are logging into. Does anyone know or can they point me in the direction of some info on how to do this?

Conflicting information here, are the netbooks on the domain or not. If they are not how are they reciving the redirected desktop as that is usually defined in policy?

 

You could look at loopback policies on the machines to apply the correct redirection per computer or tidy up the local all user start menu + desktop then allow the local apps to show through vi policy. You would then only have the network only programs in the redirected menus and anything installed locally would show up via the local start menu.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear. Yes all computers are on the domain. Thanks for the help
