About to put core switches etc on a ups but have got few things that run of transformer packs.

 

Is there any converter devices out there best would be a normal socket on one end and 3 pin power port on other end to plug into ups.

 

Anyideas grateful

I think its your best option Russ.

 

The only alternative for non rack powered appliances is to replace they're packaged transformer with one of your own and then run distribution from that. I have done this in the past when a large number of identical items needed powering. In that case 4 switches that all used 29v. I bought a power supply and wired it into a plastic box with 4 sockets and wired them that way.

 

For varying devices there should be no problem powering them from a block. Just make sure to stay safely inside the load limits of the UPS sockets using a quality block with a proper guage of cable and you'll be fine. The draw from those kinds of power supply are very low anyway.

I have simple bought a kettle-style connector form Maplins and screwed it on in place of a regular plug on a 4-gang extension lead, which I use for wall-warts for the ADSL modems. Your other choice is to put all the "small" devices on a separate UPS - you can get ones built in to power strips from APC & Belkin, last ages with low drain stuff.

If was at home I would but being in school loathed to do it just in case it burns the place down.

We are talking low drain stuff here Russ and any half-decent power strip should be fused anyway. I hook mine up to a 18A RCD protected outlet on the UPS too ;)

We got our on site sparky to make a lead. Kettle plug one end. Trailing socket the other.

 

Got sparkies in next week might ask them to do it as good guys...

I really hope you mean kettle *socket* one end, trailing sockets the other. :)

Obviously if you're doing it the other way around, the pins inside the end opposite your stated "plug" would be live and open... OUCH! (but may wake some people up)

 

You'll always be wanting a plug going into a socket, or you'll never need a barber again :)
