S Video only showing in black and white.

Hi guys,

 

Im quite useless with AV equipment and im trying to get a projector working with a dvd player.. we've got a composite video cable going from the back of the dvd player round to the projector, but the composite part of the projector isnt working.

 

I found a composite to S video cable in our office but when I plug it in it only shows as black and white, tried fiddling about with the settings on the projector and dvd but no luck. It has to be something to do with the S video settings somewhere because ive tried it with a different projector using the composite ports and it works fine.

 

Any ideas?

I'm Thinking it could be a compatibility thing between the devices, one of the devices could be NTSC and the other PAL.

 

I would check to see if you can change the output of the dvd or inout of the projector.

 

Changing the cable just to make sure wont hurt either.

Am pretty sure it is a setting on the projector using the remote control ( assuming it had or has one ) as seen this happen a few times - think it was a setting under video or something daft that relates to the output mode.

Just to second one of the above posts, it screams NTSC/PAL settings being wrong, swap to the other one in the settings of the laptop and you should be golden.

I've seen this before and IIRC it turned out that not all adapters are created equal. I think it is something to do with people being lazy and not wiring all the pins or something.

Simple one!

 

In S-Video the luminance and chrominance are seperated into two screened cables. The chroma one isn't connected, so you are only getting level information to the projector. Could easily be a bent pin in one of the plugs, or a broken core in the cable.

SVHS? That is a recording format, not a connection. I think you mean S Video (S = separated) rather than composite. It may just be that the SCART are not both fully featured.

A lot of older equipment incorrectly marks the S-video sockets as S-VHS sockets, so you're almost certainly talking about the same thing.

Andrew is giving the correct info.

 

Get an s-video source and an s-video lead and see what happens then.

Sorted it it was the S video to composite convertor, weird thing was i changed it and it still didnt work. changed it a third time and it worked like a charm..

 

Get in!
