MacBook + Windows 7

Hi,

 

Recently just got in the mac business, and enjoying my new macbooks very much, but for obvious reasons, windows needs to go on, installed through bootcomp perfectly, only one problem now, all the drivers installed okay expect for the wireless, so i googled and found out what wireless card is built in and downloaded the drivers for it, but still no wireless in device manager!!

 

After reading more, it looks like many people are having the same problem which wont be fixed until december when windows 7 is offically supported.

 

Just wondered if anyone had managed to get windows 7 and wireless working on a mac

What model of Macbook you got? I have windows 7 installed using bootcamp and wireless works fine for me.

Ive run apple update, just going to check version number after dinner, and see, wouldnt this update boot camp too?

Right, seem to have managed to get the wireless driver installed and working, but now only to find that the audio driver is installed and appears to be working, and device manager also reports no problems with it, yet there is now sound coming from the mac, ive checked every mute setting there could be with no sucess, the settings are set to full volume!! any help on this would be greatly appreciated and stop me from tearing all my hair out (:

Definitley not a faulty mac, as when booted into mac sound works fine

Have you rebooted into Windows since the sound failed? Occasionally the sound doesn't work. Usually an uninstall and then re-install of the sound drivers brings it back (on XP on an old macbook Core 2 Duo) or just a simple reboot.

Yeah removed and reinstalled it a couple of times no, both from using drivers from mac install disc and also letting windows update install it, still same problem.

 

boot it in mac and sound works pefectly

Got the 64bit version installed, which is what sorted the wireless out

Can you see the sound device in device manager.

 

Not sure why you have all these problems. Everytime i have done this its been fine.

Yeah, this is why im so stuck, device is installed and shows as working fine, even play music and the little mixer bobs up and down to show its picking up a noise

You said new so I'm assuming it's an unibody, but I thought I would ask.

I would be tempted to boot into safe mode of windows 7 ( assuming it has safe mode ) and remove the drivers in safe mode ( device manager --> right click on sound card --> Un install ) and then re install using the driver from the boot camp disc or by first of all searching for the latest driver from said manufacturers website for the model / type of sound card you have and trying that driver as well ( obviously using one driver at a time )

 

Once it is installed in safe mode, then reboot and test

 

Repeat to try the other driver(s) , not sure how you would do this for the windows one via windows update, aside from un install in safe mode and then go to the windows update site but for this you would have to be in safe mode with networking and even then am not sure if it would work this way or if you have to boot into windows normally and then run windows updater to get the driver.

We've had them a couple of months but they were 2009 stock, so this might be the problem, going to test with a 32bit edition anyway now. Cheers for that

Installed 32bit edition of windows 7 and sound is now working lovely, just so happens that the only driver not to work in 64bit was the audio driver, which as luck has it, as this are for SEN students, audio just happened to be very important, always the way.

 

But sorted now

Do you know what hardware it is? If so you may be able to manually download some 64bit drivers and install those.

Yeah i tried manually installing the realtek hd audio driver, couldn get it to work

 

on another note the realtek downloads page is the worst ive ever seen!!

Well with my White MacBook I had issues installing 64 bit drivers. What I had to do was to run the installers in compatibility mode and then it installed and everything worked.

Haven't boot camped windows for some time - just curious , this 3.2 version of boot camp is this an update to the boot camp app on OS X or is it 3.2 version exe of bootcamp for windows ??

 

If the latter then how do you get this to work ?

 

I tried boot camping windows 7 on my early 2008 mac pro ( not mac book pro ) and it refused point blank to install because I have multiple hard drives inserted at the same time, kept giving me some weird error saying there was not enough space on the hard drive ( which is and still is 500gb one partition )

 

Similar to the problem explained below

 

"Well, any one of 5 partitions that I select from to install Windows, I receive a msg, "Setup was unable to use the existing sytem partition because it does not contain the required free space", or "The selected partition requires at least 5722 MB free space". I am unable to proceed past this point. "

I tried using the windows 7 installer to delete the partition ( format it ) and re do it but kept going around in circles, at the time the only work around that I could find was to dis connect all my other hard drives, install windows 7 and re insert all hard drives and am not going to do that for the sake of getting windows 7 installed, I am only telling it to install itself on one partition, not all of them at the same time
