dsm Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Hello, We would like to set up a system to easily manage software distribution. We have distributed some software via Group Policy however the problem I have with this is that it installs the software before log in. What I would like to do is get a piece of software that distributes the software 'silently' i.e. in the background. Does anyone know of any software that can do this for free or cheaply? Many thanks
sted Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 iu would of thought pre logon was the least worst option as you dont want a user complaining the pc is slow/some bit of software doesnt work as the installer your running has stopped a service etc. What about setting up a wol task so that when you do software deploys (*at least for any software that takes more than a few mins) you schedule the pcs to wake up at say 6am so by the time people get there the software is all done
sparkeh Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Yep, take a look at WPKG, its pretty awesome and I used it a lot before getting SCCM.
K.C.Leblanc Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Another one for WPKG, it can take a while to getting used to it.
glennda Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I think the FOG service installs the software silently through it's snappins on the client software. Could also use it for image deployment etc
EvLPhenom Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 We have the machines turn on at 7am using WOL so that we can distribute any software to them and it installs before anyone is in.
