DVD to Flash

Hi,

 

I need to rip our school video from DVD to Flash for use on our website.

 

In the past, I've used a program called Flash DVD Ripper (http://www.dvd-ripper.com) to convert the DVD to MPEG, and then Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder to convert the MPEG to FLV and then Adobe Flash CS3 Professional to stick play, volume controls etc on it.

 

I've always ended up with really low quality results which always come from the Flash DVD Ripper program. Google is absolutely no help in suggesting better alternatives because it just lists similar shareware programs that are probably just as bad, so what do people use?

 

In short, what's the best way to make a high quality rip from DVD to FLV?

I would first rip the DVD to a high quality format, such as DivX or XviD or any suitable codec you have handy. I use DVDx. Then convert that file to FLV format using Flash video encoder. Once you have the FLV, I'd use a Flash video player (such as JW Player) to play the video - this saves a lot of time messing around in Flash getting it to play.

Well I usually rip with Next DVD ripper

and then convert with Super and get good results. Not sure if it's the best method but I haven't needed to look for anything better.

Just noticed that Next Ripper has a convert to flv option but haven't ever used it.

Out of interest, what's the file size of the FLV on your site?
