Whoever wins the league then takes home the pot at the end of the season. Then the rest of us can get on with the actual reason for kicking something around the field, winning a game of footie. Oh and I support the baggies.

Neither is the money situation going to improve until it stops being a self regulating body. It is, and will continue to be, the dream for Championship clubs to get promotion to the PL, however shortlived, purely and simply for the money, that is what football is all about these days ... money. The more you have, the more you'll get. That is why, for me, the Champions League represents everything that is bad about football. It has become the most important competition for the top 4 clubs in England, not because of the prestige of competing, but because of the revenue that it generates. To the point where domestic competitions play second fiddle and often get played with weakened teams, with fans paying top price to see the reserve team.

At almost the same time as the Premier League was formed, the European Cup became less of a Champions Cup than ever before. The incredibly stupid idea to let League runners-up, and then subsequently 3rd and 4th place teams into the most prestigious club competition has to go down as folly. UEFA are just as culpable in all this as the FA and PL. The threat of a Europe League, for the big clubs, was enough to have them passing out Champions League places, like smarties. Therefore, it becomes MORE important to be in the Top 4, than to actually WIN the thing! All that's really important about the league position is whether you have to travel to Latvia or Kazakstan to play your qualifier. I am a QPR fan, as I posted yesterday, and we are arguably on the verge of promotion BACK to the Premier League, for the first time in 15 years. Trust me, there are very, very mixed feelings about this! On one hand, we have super-rich owners, who could take on all those "BIG" clubs, but on the other....nothing quite matches the Play Off final in 2003, even though we lost to Cardiff (and I cried!!!!). Nothing matches the fight for survival. The days of wandering around Loftus Road, with buckets, to collect money from fans that MAY keep the club alive are long gone (for now!), but those days had the most passion!

Oh and I support the baggies. Nice in theory, except that Sky would simply up and take their money to the new league leaving much of what's left to go to the wall. Regrettably, the days where professional football can exist without big money benefactors (ie sky) is long gone. I guess you're a happy man after last night then
HodgeHi Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I didn't even know until tonight how they got on. I don't avidly support them but like to see them do well. Been to a few of their matches. Did enjoy it. Just can't afford to do it regularly. But yes by all accounts they did very well
