Macs and Ad time

All our macs are a binded to the AD network. However, this morning we noticed that no users could logon to the macs we checked the times between the macs and the AD network and the Macs had gained time resulting in them not being able to login. Is there something an a mac to sync the times with Ad time. We do have an xserve if this could help us.

in the auto time sync (that defaults to something like time.apple.com) put in the ip of one of your windows dcs it should then keep the time in check

I don't suppose the Macs also dual-boot with Windows? That can cause problems with timekeeping in OS X.

You need to mac sure that times are not out by i think 5mins but it maybe even less you might want to setup your time in system prefences to point to your domain controllers ip address on your xserve.

I take it you are running 10.5 mac clients? I had issues with this but found a post that mentioned creating a launch daemon using lingon and setting it to run on system startup. Seemed to help a little but still had issues with binds failing.

 

Overall Apple still need to do a little more work. But you could argue that they didn't have to go this far with AD integration anyway. If your macs didn't dual boot most, if not all of these issues would disappear.

You can add an NTP server (one of your AD servers) to DHCP which will make the Macs pick up time from AD, this is probably the easiest way rather than hcking about with the startup scripts of each box to make them sync time before logon.

Are you dual booting with Windows? This will cause this. When the comptuers boot into Windows it will alter the Time in OS X.

 



nope the macs arnt dual booting windows but they are running 10.5 the ip address entry has worked fine. thanks
