oxide54 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Hi, I want to prevent users saving to their desktop. 1 option I know is to use folder redirection to redirect the desktop to network location and set the permission to read only. But I'd rather not do that. Any other ideas?

Didn't you have a piece of software that wouldn't save to network drive so users had to save to desktop - copy up? think it might have been the version of photoshop but i cant remember

glennda Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 don't really give a sh!t about that. fed up of 25gb profiles cause the monkeys saved a dvd on their desktop and were probably getting CS5 soon setup FSRM to block file types on the profiles - also lucky you have the money for CS5 its fortunes aint it?

glennda Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 do they have outlook? yeah they do - I am trying to push for years 7-11 mandatory and then 6th formers which need more advanced stuff to have outlook - then i can removed 1200 /1300profiles

SLT prefer the students to have @ourdomain.org rather then wsgfl - the hosting on the exchange server is fine - we have two x 2007 and they seems to cope easily with the 700/800 ish users each. But due to the way the timetable is here and becuase we have so many departments with IT rooms (11) it works out that we can have nearly 450 users (various teachers and all 11 rooms being used) trying to login at once a couple of times a fortnight which can at somepoints make everything grind to a halt!! In fact its a wednesday week a at 11:05-11:15 and thursdays B at 9:05!

Thats my plan with windows 7 but we have a very annoying head of ICT of likes to think he knows best - at least at yours they havn't had it to miss it - our head of ICT is causing a big problem - luckily he is leaving in january and is being replaced by my sister so now what i says goes!!

glennda Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 all that problems went away when I put 6 nics in each server Not all of ours are vm's yet - still getting there - both exchanges are physical plus half the file servers - problem is we have a 4.5tb san which just isn't big enough to store all the data if we virtulised them (as we run 15/20 xp vm's for remote access) - our virtual hosts both have 64gb of ram and host the rest of the network apart from exchange n some file servers + our 2 proxys + Isa + a dc (for failover) backup (and fog). We are looking into purchasing another SAN for next summer when we move to 7 as i Want to reduce amount of physical boxes and full virtulise (either with exchange 2010 or Zimbra) We have stupid amounts of server (26 i think (cant remember them all)! single network)
