USB PC-to-PC Cloning

I've just been asked something I thought I knew the answer to. Is there such a thing as USB computer to computer cloning? I've found plenty of 'transfer your files and settings' USB kits, but someone wants to know if you can either buy a kit or do it yourself using software and a cable. Anyone know if it's possible (licensing issues aside)?

I did clone a laptop once using a Ghost Enterprise floppy boot disk and a USB to USB laplink cable some years ago but I have a feeling it was a bit hit and miss. We purchased some hard drive cloners from Lindy last year for about £45 each and they have been a godsend!

As 36Degrees stated, Ghost can do USB to USB, but agreed a SATA/IDE to USB cradle (or dedicated cloner) may be better.

 

Ghost can also do TCP/IP to TCP/IP ghosting, just need CAT5 cable and switch/hub or a CAT5 crossover cable.

Does it have to be strictly PC to PC?

Could just use Clonezilla Lite to clone to usb HD then restore to second machine?

You can then either: PC <> HDD from other PC (via USB) or HDD to HDD and connect HDDs back in a once cloned.
