No sympathy for him. If we wants to pursue over zealous legal action using tracking methods that are proven to be inaccurate, you're going to get burned somewhere along the line.

The complaints against him are because of the unethical methods his company use to try and stop "file sharing". ACS:Law (As far as I know) send out letters to suspected file sharers demanding an arbitary sum of money to stop any further legal action. A fair majority of these letters are being sent out to innocent parties and people that don't pay do not get any further action taken against them. This company survives by relying on people paying up without question. The aggressive nature of the letters cause frighten many people into paying them.

 

That is what many people (including myself) have a big problem with.

In my opinion, the principal problem with many lawyers is that they spend so long examining and working with the letter of the law that they lose sight of and forget the spirit of the law.

 

Were ACS:Law's methods legal? Absolutely. Were they fair, proportionate, or ethical? I would say not, but I suspect many legal minds would be of the opposite opinion.

Awwww, diddums. Bloody leech. We all know how IP addresses can be spoofed. Innocent people have been caught up in this and threatened by this man's company. I'm laughing into my Costa Coffee at the fact he got hacked. Serves him right.

Agreed, he made an open challenge to one of the most dangerous vigilante groups on the internet. Bad times.

Bullying people by making embarrassing claims against people is extortion. They deliberately accused people of downloading g a y p o r n so that they would not want to go to court.

 

Sympathy level will be toasting natural justice tonight.

I can answer the Virgin question [ as I am Virgin customer ] - it's because they are crap. And it would take him about 5 years to get talking to the right department plus I very much doubt anyone at Virgin knows what an IP address is let alone what a torrent is.

And there was me thinking he wouldn't have a pop at Virgin customers because of that bearded hippy grizzly Branson who'd sue the a$$ off him and his poxy company and TalkTalk would do the same.
