Long time to Log Off - New Dell Vostro 3500

Just got a new Dell Vostro 3500 Laptop for our head of ICT. Seems like a nice bit of kit. I'm just trying to set it up now with our Windows 7 image and software, etc.

However, the damn thing takes an age to log off, we're talking a good 2 - 3 minutes each time.

Event Log is pointing to:

The COM+ Event System timed out attempting to fire the StartShell method on event class {D5978630-5B9F-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E} for publisher and subscriber . The subscriber failed to respond within 180 seconds. The display name of the subscription is "wltrynt SENS Logon Spy Subscription". The HRESULT was 800705b4.

The wltrynt bit I believe relates to the wireless driver, but this appears to be up and running. Google is throwing up all sorts of results which don't seem to point at anything specific. I've downloaded all the latest drivers from Dell and I still have two unknown devices in the Device Manager. Everything about the laptop appears to be running well, just an age to log off.

Any ideas?

Ok. So I spent today, using msconfig to disable all services and enable them one by one, and seeing which one was causing the problem.

I found it! It was Dells DW WLAN System Tray service causing the problem. Looking to see if the laptop can do without it or trying to find a newer driver.

Well done for posting this !

I've been searching all over the web to get to the bottom of this problem, which is occurring on a new Dell Precision M4500.

Followed your advice of stopping the DW WLAN System tray service, and logoff/shutdown was instant instead of the minutes it had been taking. Did you find out exactly what the service is for and if it's really necessary ?

Just install the driver manually - from device manager, point @ the driver extraction folder you used for the original install. (C:\dell\drivers\R270613)

Sorry Dom_, are you replying to me. I was just thanking FragglePete for his info, I don't understand why you're saying to install a driver. There is no R270613 on the Precision M4500; are you referring to the Vostro in the original post ?
