Walkie Talkie's

Hello.

 

We are looking at buying some new walkie talkie's as the ones we already have are great outdoors but really poor indoors. Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations of what to buy??

Unlicensed PMR-446 ones?

 

I have a couple of Icoms which are great.

 

If you go for one of the better makes Kenwood/Icom etc... that are more suited to business use and servicable you'll get a better quality.

 

Alternatively if you need more power have a look a licensed and as long as you are only doing radio to raidio then the license fee isn't massive.

Kenwood ProTalks get my vote, we've got 6-7 of them. They are FAR superior to the SLT issue radios, much to SLTs disust.

 

They could transmit from our office to Greggs - that was handy..!

Do they have a buzzer for those times when we need to turn them down in classrooms?

We have a mixture of iCom ones and small shoddy ones. As you may note from my description, the small ones are shoddy. Members of staff with the iCom ones often have to relay messages between people, or alternatively you will only hear one side of the conversation. They are cheap, but cheap for a reason.

We currently use these in school - Motorola XTNi incl. Batteries & Charger (XTNI) - dabs.com we are linked with Premisis - SLT heads of house etc probly have 15+ cant complain about them

We have just bought some Motorola XTNi's for our Main Reception and they are ok but they still gave us problems listening to them through the main building.

I used to use BT ones at my old school. They were dreadful.

We use Kenwood pro talks and they are great, it even works in our server room which is in a basement

Our protalks have the additional headsets which we use - it's rather MI5ish, haha. We walk around and do the "rubber duck to bigboy, rubberduck to bigboy, we have a situation developing" thing..good fun, and it makes the Year 7's go "are you security?"..
