BSF and Middle Schools

Now, I know there aren't many of us left but what about us middle schools with 2 years of 'high school' age kids?

 

Do you reckon the government will be trying to get rid of us first anyway?

My guess is most LEA's will merge the schools to create primary, high school model this is even more so with the taking exams when you want to etc...

They've already tried that in Bedfordshire, it's been thrown out.

It's being tried in Suffolk right now.

It was tried here just recently and was thrown out. We are now 'soft federating' with our feeder schools so this may change things. It'd be nice to get more funds though.

 

It'd be nice to have matching, working, mice in our rooms :-P

So if a high school has gone over to BSF - what do you envisage happening to the primary/middle/first/infant schools in the same pyramid?

I can't believe that those such as RM won't want to get these under the same contract?

My guess is that they're going to roll the middle's deemed as secondary into the BSF and ignore the rest.

Why are some schools just for a 2 years?

 

I don't understand what this would be for.

 

I'm not having a go, just interested. Where I grew up there was one catholic school that had year 7 and 8 then they moved across to the only other secondary school in the area.

Most middle schools are year 6,7,8 (hence two years of high school) then they go to upper school.

 

Leicestershire is odd as we are years 7, 8 and 9

 

We were meant to be combing schools under bsf but with new approach to bsf not sure what going to happen?

Actually, we are years 5,6, 7 and 8 in Dorset

 

Poole is 4,5,6 and 7 but are soon changing back to the normal primary/secondary set up.

 

I can't believe that I cannot find any info about what will happen to the pyramid schools sfter BSF

Suffolk is also 5, 6, 7, 8. So again 2 years of high school.

 

And to update my earlier post, it's no longer being tried in Suffolk, it's suceeded. All middle schools in Haverhill and Lowestoft have been issued statutory closure notices and the rest of Suffolk's middle schools will receive them in 'due course'.

We are 5, 6 and 7 in Worcestershire. Originally, we thought that BSF would not be happening here until 2012 at least but a little bird told me yesterday that they may be asked to bid as early as 2009. 2013 would have fitted in nicely with my retirement plans. Is it usual for them to adopt secondary schools first? If so, that might give me some breathing space.

They have tried it again in Bedfordshire and it looks like it will go ahead this time.

Since this government/country is haemoraging money, I would guess whatever the cheapest option is, will be the outcome.

The second try in bedfordshire was in fact just for Bedford itself, but has now been stopped as the county council (them trying to get it through) are being dismantled and replaced by two unitary authorities who don't want to annoy the electorate. It is possible the Bedford Borough will take a poll of parents again when they take over schools, but that won't be until next year. As for county trying to push it through before hand, it seems unlikely as all county decisions that affect long term strategy for the unitary councils have to be passed through the new councils implementation committees. Yes that's three committees that must agree to something before anyone can do it, and it was hard enough with one!

 

As for BSF an middles I'm not sure, as a school about to go academy, we have a different set of goals, and it will be expected that the academy sets up for two tier education, even in the three tier system. Initially this may be by including a middle school in the new build, and effectively operating two schools from one campus, or simply extending the building programme depending on what the unitary decides nearer the time.
