Weird issue - home drives not mapping

I'm having some problems with users this morning mapping home areas, were using 2008 R2 with XP clients, the issue is :

 

In AD the home folder is set to connect to U: \\sjdc2\staff$\%username%

 

This was working last week and yesterday, since then no changes have been made

 

Users have correct permissions to their home folder (ad set them up when i created them)

 

Users can browse to the correct folder the explorer or run

 

My VBS script disconnects all mapped drives before mapping network drives everytime at first logon

 

however,

 

When a user logs in all they get is the root of \\sjdc2\staff$\ mapped to U:

 

Really baffled on this one, why has windows decided not to play ball with home user drive map? Everything i can think of is set correctly - can anyone help??

What are the permission on the folder Staff$, I know you said you can browse it but I've found sometimes you need the user SYSTEM as a full control user for that folder as well before it will map.

Hi John, thanks for your reply, SYSTEM and everyone has full share permissions

 

for security system has full access and users have read & ex, read and list

fixed - group policy :

 

user config->policies->admin templates->system->user profiles->connect home directory to root of share

 

needs to be disabled
