bladedanny Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Hey all, Just after a bit of advice. What do you do with your old projector lamps/bulbs? I belive the old technician just used to throw them but it's my understanding that this is the wrong thing to do due to mercury content. All suggestions welcome. Thanks, Dan P.S. we are a 'green' school so the more enviromentaly friendly the better.

plexer Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Our Site Manager takes them to the same recycler that he uses for the fluorescent tubes. Ben
glennda Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Same as Ben, they are hazardous waste so do have to be disposed of properly Toby
plexer Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 We use Light tube, bulb and lamp recycling, collection and disposal for this service. Ben
elsiegee40 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I take them to the tip (which has a recycling point) whenever I happen to be over there. They're not exactly huge, and neither is my school, so they're not a storage problem.
Hightower Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I thought a service had to be provided for by the manufacturer when a new lamp is ordered. I'm not sure on this as I don't handle this sort of stuff, but I'm sure I've seen "telephone this number to dispose of your old lamp" on the side of the box of the new lamp.

Some companies do - others just say dispose of according to local state law - we have varying types of projector and this seems to be the case
crc-ict Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 We recently used PRM Green Technologies (PRM Green Technologies Ltd - Free IT Disposal & Recycling for all - Welcome) to collect a load of redundant equipment, and they took some lamps away for us with our equipment. Service was good, and because we had enough stuff, it was free.
