Machine Washable Suits - Your Challenge

 

This year just to do things differently I started wearing a suit at work (always wore shirt and tie) anyway brought some cheap priced machine washable suites from Primark and Tescos.

 

But ones seen around are black would like something different to add to mix (grey or brown etc).

 

So anywhere know any good online websites (or shops) that offers decent priced machine washable suits in other colours than black.

Dry clean only suits wash perfectly fine in a washing machine, as long as it's a low temp, and you remember to wash both trousers and jacket together.

Dont cheap supermarket suits look, well, cheap? Machine washable or not. A friend bought one from Asda a while ago and it was super shiny..looked dreadful

Dry clean only suits wash perfectly fine in a washing machine, as long as it's a low temp, and you remember to wash both trousers and jacket together.

 

and as long as they are not wool!

 

My son just bought a nice suit from Marks that is washable

One of the reasons I picked these two as they did not look two bad and more stop gap before brought some expensive ones..

 

So to recap as long as not wool you can machine wash dry clean only suites on low temp (how low is low)

If I am going to wash my wool Next suits (supposedly machine washable) then it is at 30 degrees with a slow spin cycle. Treat them as delicate clothes (sometimes marked as the Lingerie cycle).

 

When drying them, try not to allow them to dry too quickly either. Drip dry in a humid room is best.

 

They will eventually shrink ... wool does. Wool-blend does too (and can create some interesting shapes in doing so).

 

I do like M&S suits for being machine washable with minimum of fade or shrinkage (handy for washing trousers and jacket separate ... you need to wash trousers frequently but not the jacket so much).

 

And I 've not even gotten on to teh best for ironing / steaming yet.

I would wash anything that says dry clean only on a 15 degree delicates wash, at least at first to see how it comes out. And follow that immortal expression: "Reshape whilst damp" - in other words, pull the sleeves gently to make sure the lining has not shrunk (but NOT if it is wool)

The dry cleaners are not that expensive when all said and done, I think it costs me something like £9 for my suit to be done which 3 or 4 times a year isn't that bad! (I tend not to wear suit trousers i usually wear "compatible" M&S machine washable ones that blend with the suit jacket as they do get grubby but the jacket less so.

Occasionally M&S do a special offer on their website for suits - I once picked up a jacket and two pairs of trousers for £50. They come out okay on a cold wash and a trouser press does a brilliant job on the creases.

As said wearing suits at work day in and out so would cost me a lot my other suit which use when going to meetings etc that I dry clean etc
