Remote Desktop Management

I always find myself having to remote desktop into many server all the time, and sometimes more than one server at once, and I used to get lost between all the RDP sessions..

 

I was recommended this bit of software, visionapp - visionapp Remote Desktop 2010 R2 and its been my saving grace..

 

Its paid for after the initial trial, but you can run it for free after the trial ends but it limits you to, i think, 3 concurrent sessions.. (its only $100 to buy)

Why not just create a custom MMC with all your servers in it and access them that way - neat tidy, can store all your credentials and opens all servers with a single thing?

isnt their an ms tool that does this as well though i cant for the life of me think of the name

AFAIK MS has a tool that manages multiple RDP connections at once, Although i'm also aware of Terminals

Yes its called remote desktops and is part of the admin pack from 2003 onwards

Does the MS tool bring all the RDP sessions into 1 window and let you switch between them all from the 1 window?

 

The interesting thing is this app was recommended to my by a MS employee, who was helping me via livemeeting and saw me struggling with all my rdp windows!

Gave this a try, but it still seems to use the microsoft mstsc client to use it...

 

the one i suggested does vnc/rdp/putty etc all within the one app..

MS Remote Desktop Manager gives a tree in the left hand pane and thumbnails in the right hand pane. You can be connected to any number of machines at once, monitor them from the thumbnails or double click a thumbnail for a larger image. I use it both at work and from home (where I am now).

I was using Royal TS, then came across the free version of Remote Desktop Manager - can't remember what it was that niggled me about this, but I went on to use mRemote which does an even better job - or at least, whatever it was that was bothering me, doesn't now!
