Just not what Jinnantonnix suggested...well he right about the curry!

 

He eats dry cat food as his main food type. A few different brands mixed into one incase one stops being made you suddenly dont have to change their diet and upset their tummys. That is a mission in itself because you have to make sure they dont contain fish and make sure it has all their dietry requirements, but then it lasts ages. They are insectivores so need some bugs in there too. So a few meal worms. No fish and no dairy. Wet cat food is basically "junk" food to them, nothing in it.

 

As they have been domesticated they dont hibernate. Hiberantion usually leads to death as they haven't built up the food supplies etc. So i have to make sure he doesnt get cold, no special heating really just a nice room temperature but he does have a little pad i can stick in the microwave on chilly nights.

 

Erm....hedgehogs can run up to 8 miles a night so they need a wheel and a decent sized inclosure. No hamster cages.Yes they are noisy at night!!

 

If you really would like one, best thing to do is a bit of research and then find a recommended breeder so it's registered. Ive heard so many bad things about hogs from pet shops.

Roasted Meats (Hedgehog)

 

According to medieval experts: "Hedgehog should have its throat cut, be singed and gutted, then trussed like a pullet, then pressed in a towel until very dry; and then roast it and eat with cameline sauce, or in pastry with wild duck sauce. Note that if the hedgehog refuses to unroll, put it in hot water." This is, however, a dish based on traditional methods of cooking meat going back to prehistoric times.

 

Ingredients:

 

2–2.5kg joint of meat (or leg of lamb)

 

Sufficient long grass to cover the meat

 

Method:

 

Season the meat. Wrap it in long grass, first lengthways and then tying more grass crossways to secure the green wrapping in place. Prepare your barbecue and place a large pot filled with water on it. Cook the meat for about two hours. Once the meat has cooked, remove the grass then place the meat back in the barbecue to sear. Then carve and serve. (Nettle pudding can be boiled in the same pot and served as an accompaniment.)

Been to the kruger national park in south africa - seen all of them and more including meer kats etc - mmmm bacon sarny would go down well right now

Particularly a capybara - they are like giant guinea pigs and I love guinea pigs
