Best Android phone?

I'm due an upgrade next week. What is the best Android phone currently available?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S (nice big screen although a little plasticy and it unfortunately looks a little like an iPhone) and I really like it. The HTC Desires that I've seen look very nice too but there are rumours that two new Desire versions will soon be available (maybe as early as next month) - one with a higher resolution screen and one with a keyboard.

I'm currently on the Magic, a great phone but slow now. I'm torn between Galaxy S & Desire, unless I hear different.

I'd go for a desire. I have a Wildfire that i used whilst my Nexus One was away getting fixed, and that is a wonderful little Android phone if you can't stretch to a more expensive version. Great battery life too.

The way I use my phone, I'll stretch to it. I occasionally make phone calls but make plenty of use of SMS & various Apps.

You just missed out on getting nexus one direct from Google although they say they might get some more. imo nexus one is much beter as the updates are direct from google without any third party changes. No contrat so I kept my £10pm sim with 300 minsl 300 txts and unlimited internet which you will need with android and the phone looks really good and works even better.

A slide out keyboard is one option I like.

I just wish it had the SenseUI that the HTC versions have. I miss that from the Widfire. I'll have to get it hacked in there I think.

IMHO Now that the HTC Desire has 2.2 it is the better stock phone than the Nexus due to it having the HTC Sense additions.

 

But there is very little diff between the Nexus/Desire and once the Galaxy gets 2.2 - it'll join them.

They are very much the same, true. Never though much of the SenseUI when i had my Hero, For me now its all about battery time. I just hope the next big development will be a better battery. All well and good having 1.5gh snapdragon (Snapdragon (processor) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) if battery life can support it. Having to charge my phone every night and even middle of afternoon on heavy use get bloody annoying sometimes.

I've got a HTC Desire which I've had for over a month now. I can honestly say it is a superb phone. The battery doesn't last long if you use it a lot and have wireless / gps / bluetooth turned on all the time, but this is the only niggle I've had with it. The screen is amazing and as a sat nav using Google it's brilliant.

 

Just waiting for T-Mobile to get their act together and push Froyo out to it!

Battery is always an issue. I had 3 for my Magic, until I washed on last weekend. I keep it plugged most of the time and with the help of Settings Profiles I can have Bluetooth/GPS/Wireless off when not needed.

If I'd been on contract, after all the investigations I've done over the last 2 weeks, I'd've gone for the Samsung Galaxy or the HTC Desire.

 

As it was, I'm on PAYG and baulked at spending £400-500 on a phone!

 

I also thought the Dell Streak would be worth a look on contract.
