I use the following code on pendrives to backup their contents to the WinXP machine they are connected to

xcopy %CD%\*.* "%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\My Documents\PenDriveBackup" /c /d /e /h /i /k /y
@echo .
@echo .
@echo .
@echo .
@echo .
@echo .
@echo Backup Finished

pause

(The above just sits in BackupPendrive.bat and all you have to do is double-click on it to use it)

This works well with those teachers who use it but I was wondering if anyone has something better that could maybe work the other way - e.g. runs on the computer and detects PenDriveInsertion and asks to backup files (or just does it).

Any ideas?

How about setting autorun on the pen drive to run the script?

set autorun on drive

Isn't autorun a computer property and not a pendrive one :confused:

Maybe someone could script something that would change the computer settings to make it autorun next time?

Si,

Download and install at least the 'base edition', to the root of a USB drive.

Re-insert the drive. If it does not 'autorun', then open the drive and double click 'StartPortableApps.exe'

The backup utility is on the PortableApps menu which should now appear in the system tray.

Autorun is a computer property.
