Which monitor?

I need two 19" monitors for a win7 machine in the admin office. Quality of image is important and previously we have used NEC Multisync 195VXm monitors which gave a really good clear image but these monitors are no longer available so I am looking for a replacement.

 

What monitor should I get?

Assuming that you don't want widescreen, the last ones I bought were Acer V193Db which do 1280 x1024 with DVI and VGA inputs. They are £81.44 on ProBrand.

Thanks but I've been put off buying the cheaper makes of monitor since I bought a HannsG model a few years back and it was complete pants. I've got two of the NEC 195VXM's on my machine and its pin sharp so I think it's money well spent to get a good monitor that bright and clear when the user will be looking at the screen all day.

@Jobos: I insist on using 1600x1200 monitors on my machine. The last two I bought were second-user HP 21" jobbies from ICT Direct for less than £100 each.

What's your budget for these? If you can stretch to £190 and don't mind the size, I can highly recommend the Dell 2209WA. The image quality is fantastic especially when connected via DVI.

I can go to £220-£230 for two screens but no more.

Give ICT Direct a buzz. They'll be able to supply a couple of pretty decent screens below that budget. I have 2x 19" HPs as part of my 4 screen office setup from them. I know they carry 20" Dell precision monitors on a regular basis, and they are very good!

Thanks everyone for the advice so far. I've noticed that a lot of monitors don't have speakers and as these monitors are for the admin office that might not be a bad thing anyway so I was woundering if you put monitors with speakers in the school office?

I've just asked them if they wanted sound on the monitor and they said yes so that narrows the choice down a bit

I've yet to find a reason for our office staff to need multimedia capabilities of any kind. So, i'd still be putting 'speakers' in the optional box, and carrying on my search without them if I were you.

None of our office staff have integrated speakers on their LCDs since they can use headphones if required. A more important feature IMO is a height-adjustable stand (for H&S reasons) - a lot of the cheaper LCDs lack this.

I've had a Samsung at home for almost 3 years now. It has great picture quality and works perfectly.

 

Samsung do a 19" monitor for about £115 which is height adjustable, well so the description says - Samsung 943B

I would either go with iiyama or samsung personally - always had the best reviews that I have come across, the dell's as far as I know are just re branded ( I think - could be wrong )

Most monitor manufacturers use LCD panels from other companies (AU Optronics, LG.Display, Samsung, etc.), so you can't always trust a brand. I'm sure they all have their share of duff screens. Apple's 27" iMac uses an LG panel for example (exactly the same as in Dell's U2711).
