skawarrior Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I've barely had it a month and my Desktop Coffee maker has decided its not going to work anymore. Its got power but won't actually make me any coffee I'm massively gutted as its summer holidays and I don't have the break time coffee provisions to fall back on. In other news my Bento box is in excellent condition and I enjoyed some rather nice Hoi Sin noodles for my lunch.
wizzard Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Oh no caffeine shortage. Have you tried turning it on and off?
p858snake Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Have you tried chucking it out the window and retesting?
tom_newton Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 My £7 coffee machine from co-op functioned perfectly for 5 years. It was eventually replaced by a better model (got it as a wedding gift). Brought it in to work to replace a dead unit, and some t--ser broke the jug within 2 days.
skawarrior Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 It's being replaced by Firebox but still I'm going to be machineless till next week. I'm risking a replacement rather than a refund or credit note as when it was working it was brilliant. It makes filter coffee by the cup in less time than it take our kettle to boil
creese Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 If it is proper coffee you are after, get one of the 'mug top' filters. Comes in 3 bits, a lid, the water container/drip and the filter. I've been using one for years.
jamesb Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 May I suggest a kettle? No! They make instant. My suggestion would be a Senseo. Wonderful coffee.
skawarrior Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 I prefer loose ground coffee to those prepacked things, that way my first coffee in a morning can be an extra strong heaped scoop. Also there is more variety in available products and the possibility to nip over Londis to get more if needs be.
creese Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 My first cup is Taylor's Hot Lava Java, No.6 on the scale of 1 to 5.
tom_newton Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Linky linky! Show us the machine! I buy coffee from coffee compass (but Richard is on holiday this week, so you'll have to wait if you want some) by the box-load. We usually get some interesting stuff - think we're on the Zimbabwean at the mo. Still, Taylors is excellent, just a bit expensive for use in the office, and lacks the variety we get at Coffee Compass.
nicholab Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Those machines are useless they don't make tea!!
Jamo Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Well I used to drink the Nescafe Alta Rica which is the closest to filter that you can get in an instant imho, but since petrol prices have gone up and my 75 mile round trip is costing more, I am relegated to a much cheaper (but may I say quite reasonable) cup of Alcafe Gold from Aldi. For less than 1/3 the price pretty good me thinks. Its certainly better than the Tesco cheap cack I bought last time, which somehow they have replaced the lovely aroma of coffee with the strangley unsatisfying smell of cabbage water... Anyhow back to my Alcafe!
skawarrior Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 Desktop Coffe Maker @ Firebox I had some Hot Lava Java at home not as strong as I thought it would be I really liked it. Currently on the Carte Noir as it was on offer down Morrisons
