GPP Mapped Drives (driving me crazy)

I'm mapping my drives with Group Policy Preferences & all seemed to be going well until...

 

I'm trying to map a drive with a variable in the UNC. I'm trying to map drive U to \\SERVER\Users$\%LogonName% with the label "User Space"

 

The first user I login when setting this policy works as expects. PERFECT.

 

The next user I login, the drive maps (great) but the label is the default you'd expect on such drive "%LogonName% on SERVER\Users$"

 

I know it's a minor issue, yet really want it sorting - as I said it works with the first user fine. This isn't profile based and it doesn't matter what user I log in first - the correct label stays for that user but none of the other users!!

 

Quirky, anyone had this or know of how to resolve it? Time to leave the office now (yes it's annoying me that much)!!

Have you tried changing the type from Create to something like replace / update etc...?

 

I find that has solved a few issues with other uses of mapped drives.

It’s set to update at present, the mapping of the drive is consistent however the naming of the mapped drive isn’t, rather strange!

My GPP fior this works fine, though I thought the variable was %username% ?

 

The settings are as follows:

 

Action: Update

Location: \\server\share\home\%username%\Documents

Reconnect: True

Label as: My Home Drive

Use: H:

 

and on the common tab:

 

nothing selected for staff, but for pupils, I use item level targetting based on security group membership so that the correct path is mapped as the pupils UNC is \\server\share\home\year xx\%username%\Documents (EG pupil in the "Year 07" group would get the path \\server\share\home\year 07\%username%\documents

 

There is a seperate rule for each year 7-11 with the UNC and ILT changing accordingly..

 

The "Documents" at the end of the UNC is to stop the Vista/Win7 habit of renaming the users folder on the server to "Documents"

Out of interest, can I ask why "reconnect: true"?

 

A similar setup here, only slightly different on the trailing \documents - which seems a VERY good (and wise) idea... may have to implement that!!

This depends on folder redirection and wether you have the Vista / 7 File structure under the users root folder, or the old XP style.

 

IE Vista / 7 is

 

Root

-Documents

-Videos

-Pictures

-Music

 

 

XP is

Root

-Documents

-+My Music

-+My Videos

-+My Pictures

 

Linking people to the docs folder would make access to the other folders problematic.

I'm also unable to hide a mapped drive it seems - any suggestions why? (XP client)

Have you installed the Client Side Extensions for XP?

Without these GPP's wont work..

Yeah CSEs are installed - drives get mapped just seems I cannot set them to hidden!
