Need Help with folder ownership in windows 7

Hi,

 

At the moment i am moving our system over from xp to windows 7. i need to transfer all of the pupils work. I have just moved over the whole of year 7's files onto the new system. Tedious. I am happy to move the files across that is not too bad. The time consuming part is that i have to give the students ownership of their files for the quotas. so after moving the files over i give them ownership of the folder and all their files but then give administrator ownership of the main folder.

 

What i want to know is there a script or program out there that can do this all for me. It needs to give the pupils ownership of the folder and files and then admin the ownership of the main folder but not all of the files.

if the students folders are named the same as their username, you can use Wisemans NTFSFix program. Ive used it recently and its pretty useful

Am i correct in thinking that you are using windows XP as a file server?

this looks good. but it doesnt help with ownership just does permissions.

do they really need to be owner? can you not just take ownership of everything and then grant them the permisisons they reqiure?

That tool should fix ownership as well. Rabbie is suggesting you take ownership and get permissions on the files and folders and then run the tool. It should then work as expected.

I know the title says "reset permissions" but it also shows you how to set ownership.
